Ear, nose and throat specialty which is now named as otolaryngology and Head & Neck Surgery. This specialty has developed and expanded a lot in last three decades. Otolaryngologist deals with diseases affecting the neck and mouth particularly neck swellings (glands and various cancers affecting the neck, mouth, throat and voice box. With the advent of endoscopic surgery, otolaryngologist deals with diseases of nose and sinuses very effectively. Endoscopic surgery also includes surgery for blocked tear duct (dacryocystorhinostomy) through nose. The service also offers whole range of surgical procedures for various ear diseases including surgery for chronic infections and hearing restoration. Children commonly suffer from E.N.T. problems like disease of tonsils, adenoids, fluid in the middle ear etc. and all the surgical procedures like tonsillectomy and adenoidectomy etc. are carried out here. The otolaryngology surgical set up at M.P.H. includes a start-of-the-art microscope and whole set up for endoscopic sinus surgery. |

Dr. Mazin Al-Khabori was trained in Glasgow, UK and has been working as Consultant Otolaryngologist. He is a member of British Association of Pediatric Otolaryngologists (BAPO), A.G.C.C. Society in Otolaryngology and Hearing International. He deals with all aspects of E.N.T. Surgery. He is the head of the department of E.N.T. Department at Al Nahda Hospital.

Dr. Jamil Hyder was trained in the UK and has been working as a Consultant Otolaryngologist for the last fourteen years. He is a member of the American Academy of Otolaryngology and Head & Neck Surgery. He also has the distinction of holding specialist registration in Otolaryngology with the General Medical Council of UK, with full accreditation to work as an E.N.T. Consultant in the United Kingdom. He deals with all aspects of E.N.T. surgery and has special interest and experience of minimally invasive endoscopic sinus surgery and minimally invasive endoscopic ear surgery. He also has extensive experience of treating Head & Neck diseases at tertiary care level.

Dr. M. A. Sohail did his graduation and master's training from India. He also took advanced endoscopic surgical training in Austria and Germany. He has been doing ENT surgery for more then 30 years. He was the first to start endoscopic nasal and sinus surgery in Oman 12 years back and since then has done very large number of such surgeries. His other fields of interests are minimally invasive ear surgery and investigations and treatment of giddiness. He is a member of American Academy of Otolaryngologists.

Worked as teaching faculty and consultant ENT surgeon at the same institute for nearly 12 years. Joined Ministry of Health Oman 8 years ago and presently working as Sr. Consultant ENT surgeon at Al Nahdha Hospital. Has more than 50 publications in ENT medical journals and contributed six chapters in medical books. Was awarded gold medal for best paper on facial nerve paralysis by NES, India. Special interest in all forms of Ear surgery and Cancer surgery for head and neck. Has good experience in resection and anastomosis for repair of tracheal stenosis.

Dr.Amar Singh, a
well known ENT surgeon currently working as Senior
Consultant at Al Nahdha hospital (Ministry of
Health), is also visiting consultant at Muscat
Private Hospital. Besides general otolaryngology,
his special interest is in Cosmetic and Functional
Surgery of nose i.e Septo-Rhinoplasty. This includes
correction of various types of external and internal
nasal deformities especially crooked and deviated
nose, nasal hump or depressed nasal bridge or nasal
tip, nasal valve and severe septal deformities etc.
He has a large series of more than 2000 such
surgeries performed successfully. He received
advanced training in Facial Plastic Surgery
especially Functional and Aesthetic surgery of Nose
and endoscopic sinus surgery from Germany, Canada
and Austria. He is a regular invited faculty for
rhinoplasty courses and workshops abroad. He also
had fellowship training in Head &Neck reconstructive
surgery from Tokyo, Japan. He is member of American
Academy of Otolaryngology and Head & Neck surgery.He
has a number of publications in local and
international medical journals on research topics
including treatment protocols in malignant otitis
externa or Diabetic ear and skull base osteomyelitis.
He has also authored a book titled ‘Basic techniques
of Septo-rhinoplasty’. |
