Dr. Amitabh Jha

MD (Medicine), DM (Nephrology)

Senior Consultant Nephrologist

Dr. Amitabh Jha brings to fore more than 20 years of his experience in Nephrology, most of it being in Sultanate of Oman i.e. at the Royal Hospital where he is working since 1991. Thus he has gained extensive exposure and vast experience pertaining to the diseases of the kidney particularly those emanating as a result of diabetes and hypertension, two diseases that have assumed alarming prevalence in this part of the world.
With the availability of Dr. Amitabh’s services we hope to bring about more awareness about the prevalence of kidney disease in the population accessing health care in the private sector. This is particularly relevant as for every patient with ‘end stage renal disease’ there are 1000 more patients in less severe stages of renal disease in community. This alarming scenario can best be addressed by increasing the education and thus awareness of the health care providers for e.g. the GPs who in turn screen the population at risk, make them aware of the problem and then refer to a specialist before it reaches a stage requiring dialysis or kidney transplantation. Chronic kidney disease being irreversible and progressive, the best way to deal with it is by preventing it, recognizing it in early stages and slowing the progression.
Other common problems facing the community like obstinate urinary tract infection, medical treatment to help prevent stone formation, hypertension that is difficult to control and ‘nephritis’ resulting in swelling of the legs etc. can also be addressed with Dr. Amitabh’s expertise.
