Biography:
Dr. Salim Al Maskari (MD, DCH, MRCPI, FRCPCH) is a senior consultant pediatric cardiologist; has 21-year experience in acquired and congenital heart diseases in children and congenital heart diseases in adult. He is well known in the field of pediatric cardiology in Oman and in the region and led the service in his country for many years. He established a comprehensive pediatric cardiology service and initiated many advanced cardiac interventions for structural heart diseases in adult and children in the sultanate. His is very skilled in investigational diagnostic procedure such as echocardiogram, electrocardiogram cardiac CT scan etc. as well as in interventional procedures. His experience covers wide range of acquired and congenital heart disease from fetal life till adulthood. His experience in simple and complex congenital heart disease is well valued by his colleagues and cardiac surgeons. Dr. Salim based his management on available evidence from the literatures and his long experience in dealing with all sorts of defects.
Dr. Salim has a unique approach with patients and parents’ in explaining, handling, and counseling leaving them with no doubt in understanding the disease and its management. His sympathy, gentle approach and simplicity in explanation gave him pivotal position among others in his field and this placed him as a point of reference of the patient’s families and relatives.
Dr. Salim currently; is the president of Oman Heart Association and a member of Gulf Heart Association board. In addition to his clinical work, he is holding administrative post as the director of the National heart center since 2015 and before this, he was leading Child Health Department at the Royal Hospital for five years. He was a member pediatric scientific committee at OMSB from 2006 till 2021.
Dr. Salim gave scientific talks about congenital heart diseases in multiple local and international conference and has many publications in renowned medical journals.
