This manual tells you what you can expect during your hospital stay. Please feel free to talk about your needs with our staff and ask questions about the hospital routine, your illness or treatment.

Muscat Private Hospital is the premiere private hospital in Oman and is the first healthcare facility in the country to obtain Joint Commission International (JCI) accreditation in 2012, we were reaccredited in 2015 and recently got our 3rd Gold Seal of approval in 2018 thereby confirming that we deliver healthcare services to the best internationally accepted standards.

In gaining the Joint Commission International Accreditation, we made a commitment to focus on quality of service delivery, patient safety and to keep an eye on how we can continue to improve our services. We aim to make your stay with us as comfortable and pleasant as possible.

Upon Your Admission

When you are admitted, a patient identification band containing your name and medical record number will be placed in your wrist or ankle. Our staff will compare your name and medical records number to ensure that the information is correct. You are required to wear it whilst you are in the hospital. For your safety, you will be asked for your identification many time throughout your stay.

COMPANION:
One companion is allowed to stay with you. Extra beddings will be provided.

PRAYER:
Qibla is placed at the entrance of your room and a prayer mat is available in the clothes locker.

Personal belongings & valuables

Please do not bring jewelry or large amount of money in the hospital. While every care is taken for security, the hospital does not accept responsibility if valuables are lost or stolen. If you must bring such items, please ask staff to arrange safe custody.

Hospital Security

The hospital has 24 hours security. External doors are locked from 23:00H till 07:00H. External access during these hours are through the Emergency Department Ambulance Entrance. The Hospital is also secured by CCTV cameras placed in strategic locations for your safety.

DOCTOR’S ROUNDS :
You will receive a daily visit from your doctor or on duty.

ROOM :
There are 22 channels available in English and Arabic in your room TV, Wifi connectivity is also available. Please ask one our nursing staff anytime for connection.

Infection Control

A patient may need to be cared for in an isolation room to stop the spread of infection. If this is the case, the patient and their family will be told.

Hospital Staff may wear plastic aprons, eye protection and gloves while giving care to prevent the spread of infection. Hand washing is the most important way to stop the spread of infection, as a patient or visitor to our hospital, you can help stop spread of infection by doing the following:

  • Wash your hand after going to the toilet, before eating, or when entering or leaving the wards
  • Visitors should not come to the hospital if they are feeling sick
  • Ask your nurse if you need more information on infection control.
  • You are encouraged to use hand sanitizer frequently.

Medications

Any medications brought into the hospital must be given to the nursing staff. Your doctor will prescribe the appropriate medications for you while you are an inpatient and at discharge.

Call System

Use the Nurse call button located at your bedside should you need assistance. Press the buzzer once unless there is an emergency.

Smoking

Cigarette smoking is prohibited in all Muscat Private Hospital facilities, whether you are a patient or a visitor, if you wish to smoke, you must go outside the hospital premises in the designated smoking areas.

Discharge from the Hospital

The aim of planning your discharge is to return you home as soon as you are well enough. Preparation for discharge begins from the first day of admission. An estimated date of discharge will be determined by medical staff. Please request for sick leave/medical certificate in advance to avoid delays.

On discharge, your treatment may not be complete and may need to continue when you return home. You may also need some home support services.

Before you leave the hospital, you should obtain the following information from your doctor or the nurse assigned for your care:

  • Any follow up OPD appointments
  • Medications

Before you leave, you should also ensure that:

  • You have all your personal belongings
  • You have signed all the necessary claim forms and that all the fees are paid.
  • All items held for you have been collected.
  • You obtain relevant certificates from your doctor.
  • You know what medications you are on as well as any follow up services you need.

Discharge Process Flow

Discharge Process

Discharge from the hospital usually takes 2 hours if you are self pay after your doctor has given the order. During this time, your health is still continually monitored by our professional healthcare staff while your papers are being processed.

The processes included in your discharge are the following:

  • Doctors order (Discharge order)
  • Doctors paper works (Sick leave, insurance claims, discharge summary etc.)
  • Nursing process
  • Preparation and collection of your medications
  • Generation of invoice

If insurance: covered, this is around 4 hours due to the following:

  • Processing of insurance documents
  • Waiting for insurance approval from your
  • insurance company
  • Generation of invoice
  • Rendering of nursing care, handover of documents, medications and explanation of your discharge instructions including your medications & follow up visit if any
  • Discharge from hospital

We ensure at MPH to hire professional nursing staff that can render total quality care, but we also pride ourselves with compassionate nursing. Our nurses are the number one advocate of patient safety and they will ensure that you receive that optimal care that you require. They work tirelessly and selflessly for you to achieve that.

In lieu to that fact, MPH gives recognition to our nurses through the DAISY awards which is an internationally recognized award giving body for compassionate nurses worldwide.

If you want to nominate your nurse for the DAISY awards, you can ask our patient welfare staff or our nursing staff for the nomination form. Your story tells us how wonderful your experience was in our hospital and how our nurses were a part of your journey.

Meal Time

BREAKFAST: 06:30 – 09:00H
LUNCH: 12:00 – 15:00H
DINNER: 18:00 – 2100H

Dietician will visit you every morning between 08:00—09:00H (Sunday to Thursday).

To ensure optimal nutritional standards, please do not order meals from outside restaurants.

1 companion will be provided with daily meals free of cost.

There will be additional charge for extra meals ordered.

The hospital provides a choice of meals and will supply special diets where this is part of your medical care or cultural or religious meals.

If you are not on a diet, you will be offered a selection before meal time.

With certain procedures you will not be able to eat or drink for several hours, our nursing staff will tell you how long you must fast before the procedure.

Patient & family bill of Rights & Responsibilities

At Muscat Private Hospital we are committed to provide you and your family with the most appropriate healthcare, understanding and respect of your individual needs and rights. The following is a summary of your rights and responsibilities to help us give you the best care while you and your family are in the hospital.

CARE – You have the right to

  • Have dignified, compassionate, culturally sensitive and respectful care at all times in a clean, safe and friendly environment.
  • Discuss the care and services that are being provided to you and participate in decision making.
  • Receive optimal pain management.
  • Be provided with a copy of your discharge summary orders to facilitate follow up.
  • Refuse or discontinue treatment and to be informed of the possible consequences of such.

Information – you have the right to

  • Know the hospitals’ mission, vision and core values. Know which healthcare professionals are primarily responsible for your care.
  • Be kept fully informed of your diagnosis, treatment, plan of care, possible significant complications or side effects.
  • Be informed of the benefits, risk, alternatives and techniques of all treatment including non-treatment and procedures.
  • Be informed of the expected cost of any recommended treatment.
  • Know an alternative source of care and services when the hospital cannot provide this type of care or service.
  • Be informed about how you can make a complaint.
  • To have all information provided to you in a manner that can be understood.

Safety & Security

  • Be protected from physical, verbal or psychological abuse.
  • Expect reasonable level of protection of your possession from theft or loss.
  • Expect to be able to request a copy of your medical records. (In accordance with the hospital policy and/or Omani Law.

Privacy & Confidentiality you have the right to

  • Privacy & maintenance of your dignity during examination, procedure and treatment.
  • Be assured of confidentiality and appropriate data protection.
  • To expect that your health record and all types of communications about your care will be regarded as confidential where applicable.

You are responsible for

  • Treating all staff with courtesy and respect.
  • Being considerate of other patients by observing their rights to privacy.
  • Being respectful of personal and hospital property and that of other patients and visitors.
  • Observing the no smoking rule of the hospital.
  • Observing mobile phone prohibition notices.
  • Observing patient visiting hours and visitor restrictions set by the hospital.
  • Providing MPH healthcare professionals with complete and accurate information about your current and past medical history.
  • Following the treatment plan recommended by your healthcare professionals and informing your caregiver if there is/may be a difficulty in following instructions.
  • Taking all prescribed medications as directed by MPH healthcare providers.
  • Keeping your appointment and rescheduling them incase of inability to attend.
  • Making sure that you understand diagnostic or therapeutic procedure and the associated risk/benefits that will be done for you before signing informed consent.
  • Accepting responsibility for any deterioration in your health which is attributed to refusal of discontinuation or failing to comply with lifestyle changes/treatment advised by MPH professionals.
  • Informing MPH staff immediately if you believe that your rights have been violated.
