About Dr. Megha

Dr. Megha is a Senior Consultant in Fetal Medicine with more than 35 years of experience in obstetrics and gynaecology, including over two decades dedicated to fetal medicine in the Sultanate of Oman. She is one of the region's most experienced specialists in detailed pregnancy ultrasound — diagnosing congenital conditions before birth, monitoring babies with growth restriction, and guiding parents through complex pregnancies with clarity and compassion.

Dr. Megha earned her MBBS (1983) and MD in Obstetrics & Gynaecology (1986) from Bombay University, India, and obtained her MRCOG in the United Kingdom in 2000. She completed subspecialty training in Fetal Medicine as a Clinical Fellow at the Fetal Medicine Unit of St Michael's Hospital, Bristol University, UK, along with the Diploma in Advanced Obstetric Ultrasonography jointly awarded by the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists and the Royal College of Radiologists.

She served Oman's Ministry of Health for over three decades — first at the Royal Hospital, then at Khoula Hospital, where she was Senior Consultant in Fetal Medicine from 2008 to 2023, leading the obstetric ultrasound and fetal medicine service that assessed 300 to 350 high-risk pregnancies every month. Her practice encompassed diagnosing congenital malformations, coordinating genetic workups with clinical geneticists, performing amniocentesis, running monthly congenital anomaly review meetings with neonatologists, and planning care jointly with paediatricians, paediatric cardiologists, and paediatric surgeons. Since 2023 she has continued as Senior Consultant in Fetal Medicine at a dedicated maternal-fetal care center in Muscat, and she also trained OMSB residents and peripheral hospital doctors in obstetric ultrasound throughout her Ministry service.

A member of the International Society of Ultrasound in Obstetrics & Gynecology (ISUOG) and a former board member of the Oman Society of Ultrasound in Obstetrics and Gynecology, Dr. Megha believes every parent deserves answers, honesty, and a clear plan — delivered with the gentleness that anxious families need most.

Common Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

A fetal medicine specialist performs detailed ultrasound assessments of the unborn baby — checking growth, development, and wellbeing — diagnoses congenital conditions before birth, performs tests such as amniocentesis when needed, and plans care with the wider team so the baby gets the right support from the first moments of life.
Common reasons include an abnormal or uncertain finding on a routine scan, a baby measuring small (growth restriction), a previous baby with a congenital condition, high-risk pregnancy factors, or the need for a detailed anomaly scan or amniocentesis.
