Your Rights as a Patient

  • Respect and non-discrimination — To be treated with dignity and consideration by every member of our team, without discrimination, and to have your values, beliefs and cultural traditions respected in a way that does not compromise your treatment plan.
  • Access to appropriate care — To receive suitable healthcare services at the right time within our published operating hours, and to receive immediate attention in our Emergency Department in an emergency.
  • A safe environment — To receive care in a safe setting appropriate to your health condition, protected from harm and negligence, with clear guidance and orientation to the hospital's facilities.
  • Privacy and confidentiality — To have your privacy protected and your medical information kept confidential during your care and after you leave the hospital, in line with the applicable laws and regulations of the Sultanate of Oman.
  • Clear information about your condition and treatment — To be informed about your health condition and your medical or surgical treatment plan in simple, understandable language, and to discuss expected outcomes, available alternatives, risks and possible side effects with your treating doctor. You may ask that a member of your immediate family receives this information with you.
  • Informed consent and participation in decisions — To know the nature of any diagnostic or therapeutic procedure before it is carried out, to take part in decisions about your treatment plan, and to confirm your decision by signing the relevant consent forms. For children and for patients unable to decide for themselves, the guardian exercises this right in accordance with applicable Omani law.
  • Accepting or refusing treatment — To accept or refuse a proposed diagnostic or therapeutic procedure after being informed of the possible health consequences, provided your decision does not conflict with public health laws.
  • Knowing your care team — To know the name and specialty of your treating doctor and of the healthcare team responsible for your care.
  • Being informed of any medical error — To be told if a medical error occurs during your care and how such situations are handled.
  • Choice about research participation — To agree to or decline taking part in any proposed medical research, and to withdraw at any time, without this affecting the care you receive.
  • Clear information about costs — To be informed of the price list for our main services, including consultations, major investigations and procedures, and to ask questions about the cost of your care before proceeding.
  • Communication support — To receive information in a language and manner you can understand, with communication assistance arranged where needed so that you can take part fully in decisions about your care.
  • Medical records, reports and certificates — To receive a discharge summary describing your condition, the care provided and any follow-up required; and to request a medical report, attendance certificate or sick leave in accordance with the applicable rules and regulations and the recommendation of your treating doctor.
  • Your personal data rights — To exercise the rights available to you under the Personal Data Protection Law, including obtaining a copy of your personal data, requesting correction or updating, and withdrawing consent. Our Privacy Policy explains how to make such a request.
  • Dignity in end-of-life care — To receive appropriate and compassionate care at the end of life, and for the deceased to be handled with respect and dignity.
  • Accessibility and support — To be supported in accessing our facilities and services, with appropriate assistance for patients with disabilities, reduced mobility or additional needs.
  • Raising concerns and giving feedback — To share compliments, comments or complaints about your treatment and care without fear of any negative consequence for the care you receive.

Your Responsibilities as a Patient

Good care depends on partnership. We ask that you:

  • Provide accurate identification and complete information when you register, and inform us of any change to your contact details.
  • Disclose your current and past medical history, including allergies and communicable diseases, even if you are not specifically asked.
  • Follow the treatment plan and instructions given by your treating doctor, and tell us if you have difficulty doing so.
  • Attend scheduled appointments, and contact us in advance if you need to reschedule or cancel.
  • Understand that patients with more urgent conditions may need to be seen before you.
  • Treat our healthcare workers, other patients and visitors with respect, and respect the privacy and comfort of others. Verbal or physical abuse of healthcare workers is not tolerated and is subject to legal accountability under Omani law.
  • Follow hospital rules, including those relating to safety, smoking and visiting hours, and take care of hospital property and equipment.
  • Keep personal valuables secure and bring only essential belongings if you are admitted.
