Frequently Asked Questions

Dr. Nabil treats children with conditions of the brain, spinal cord, nerves and muscles. These include epilepsy and other seizure disorders, febrile seizures, developmental delay, cerebral palsy, headache and migraine, movement disorders, neurogenetic and neurometabolic conditions, and neuromuscular disorders.
Dr. Nabil sees patients from birth up to 18 years of age.
Yes. Epilepsy is his main area of expertise. He assesses children with seizures, uses EEG to identify the type of epilepsy, and plans treatment, usually starting with medication. For children whose seizures continue despite medication, he can consider other options, including ketogenic diet therapy.
The ketogenic diet is a medically supervised diet that is very high in fat and very low in carbohydrate. It changes how the body produces energy, which can reduce seizures. It is mainly used for children whose epilepsy has not been controlled by two or more medicines. Many children have fewer seizures on the diet, and some become seizure-free. It must only be started and monitored by a specialist team, including a doctor and a dietitian.
Consider a referral if your child has seizures or episodes you cannot explain, is late reaching developmental milestones, is losing skills they had before, has frequent or severe headaches, has unusual movements, or has muscle weakness. Your paediatrician can also refer you if they are concerned.
Yes. Dr. Nabil assesses children with developmental delay, including global developmental delay, and children who need a neurological assessment as part of an autism evaluation. He looks for an underlying cause, including genetic and metabolic conditions, and works with other specialists and therapists on a plan for your child.
Please bring any previous EEG, MRI or CT reports, other medical reports, and a list of your child's medicines. If your child has episodes or seizures, a video recorded on your phone is very helpful.
