About Dr. Najlaa

Dr. Najlaa is a Specialist in Obstetrics and Gynaecology at Muscat Private Hospital, with fifteen years in women's health. She is certified by the Arab Board of Health Specializations in Obstetrics and Gynaecology.

Dr. Najlaa looks after women through pregnancy and birth and across the wider range of gynaecological care. Her obstetric practice covers antenatal care, the monitoring and management of high-risk pregnancies, normal vaginal delivery and Caesarean section. On the gynaecology side she sees women with menstrual problems, polycystic ovary syndrome, hormonal and menopausal symptoms, recurrent pregnancy loss and pelvic floor disorders, and performs laparoscopic and urogynaecological surgery.

She also works in fertility care, including fertility assessment, investigation of recurrent miscarriage and intrauterine insemination, and has training in obstetric and gynaecological ultrasound. Dr. Najlaa takes part regularly in continuing medical education and advanced gynaecology training.

Her approach is to explain what is happening, set out the options and their trade-offs, and reach a decision with the woman rather than for her — in pregnancy, in fertility treatment and in deciding whether surgery is the right step at all.

Common Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

Dr. Najlaa covers both halves of the specialty. In obstetrics she provides antenatal care, manages high-risk pregnancies and delivers babies by normal birth and Caesarean section. In gynaecology she sees women with heavy or irregular periods, fibroids, ovarian cysts, endometriosis, pelvic pain, PCOS, menopausal symptoms, prolapse and bladder problems, and she works in fertility care.
She will ask about your symptoms, your periods, any pregnancies and your general health, and examine you if that is appropriate. Many women will have a pelvic ultrasound at the same visit, since it answers a great deal at once. You will usually leave with an explanation of what is likely going on and a plan — which may be blood tests, a scan at a particular point in your cycle, treatment, or simply review. You are welcome to bring someone with you.
Yes. High-risk pregnancy means pregnancy where mother or baby needs closer watching — diabetes or high blood pressure in pregnancy, a previous Caesarean or preterm birth, twins, concerns about the baby's growth, or an existing medical condition. This involves more frequent visits, extra scans and a delivery plan made in advance. Where a pregnancy needs a level of care beyond what the hospital can provide, Dr. Najlaa will say so and arrange the right referral.
Dr. Najlaa provides fertility assessment for both partners, investigation and treatment of ovulation problems and PCOS, cycle monitoring, intrauterine insemination, and investigation of recurrent miscarriage. Fertility treatment starts with finding the cause, and a good number of couples conceive with treatment that stops well short of IVF.
No, and any clinic that suggests otherwise should be treated with caution. Success rates for every fertility treatment depend heavily on the woman's age, the cause of the difficulty and how long you have been trying, and they fall with age. Dr. Najlaa will give you a realistic picture of what treatment is likely to achieve in your particular situation, including the possibility that it does not work, before you commit to it.
Not necessarily, and it is not decided in advance for most women. A Caesarean is recommended when it is the safer route for you or your baby — for example the baby lying in the wrong position, a low-lying placenta, or a problem arising during labour. Both routes carry risks and both have advantages, and a previous Caesarean does not always rule out a vaginal birth next time. Dr. Najlaa will discuss the reasoning with you rather than simply issuing a decision.
