About Dr. Ghusn
Dr. Ghusn is a Senior Consultant Neurosurgeon whose practice spans brain tumour surgery, stereotactic radiosurgery and complex spine surgery. He completed his neurosurgical residency at McGill University in Canada, followed by subspecialty fellowship training in spine surgery at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston and in neurosurgical oncology and radiosurgery at the Cleveland Clinic in Ohio.
He began his training in Oman, completing a Bachelor of Science in Health Science and then his Doctor of Medicine at Sultan Qaboos University. After working as a Medical Officer with the Ministry of Health and as a Senior House Officer at Sultan Qaboos University Hospital, he moved to Canada for neurosurgical residency at the McGill University Health Centre, where he served as Chief Resident and was awarded the FRCSC in Neurosurgery. During his residency he also completed a Master of Science in Surgical Education and Innovation at McGill.
His spine fellowship at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center covered trauma and degenerative spine surgery, metastatic spine disease, intradural and extradural spinal tumours, and robotic spine surgery. He then joined the Cleveland Clinic as a Neurosurgery and Radiosurgery Oncology Fellow, working in intra-axial and extra-axial brain tumour surgery, Gamma Knife radiosurgery and laser interstitial thermal therapy for brain tumours, before continuing there as a fully licensed attending neurosurgeon with full privileges at the main campus.
Dr. Ghusn practises as a Senior Consultant Neurosurgeon at Muscat Private Hospital. He has served as Head of Neurosurgery and Senior Consultant Neurosurgeon at Sultan Qaboos University Hospital since November 2023, and holds an appointment as an Attending Neurosurgeon at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston.
He maintains an active research profile with more than fifteen peer-reviewed publications and a textbook chapter on stereotactic radiosurgery for chordomas and chondrosarcomas. His research spans virtual-reality surgical simulation and artificial-intelligence assessment of surgical skill, carried out with the Neurosurgical Simulation Research Centre at McGill, alongside international multicentre studies of radiosurgery outcomes in brain tumours and epidemiological work on spinal trauma in Oman. He remains closely involved in surgical education and has contributed extensively to community health awareness initiatives in Oman.
