About Dr. Hema

Dr. Hema is an experienced General and Advanced Laparoscopic Surgeon with over 32 years of surgical practice. Her clinical work focuses on laparoscopic gastrointestinal surgery, hernia repair and complex abdominal wall reconstruction, breast surgery and general surgical care. She is known for her meticulous operative technique, broad surgical experience and commitment to safe, evidence-based treatment.

She completed her MBBS and MS in General Surgery at the University of Bombay, securing top academic distinction in Surgery at both levels. She also cleared the DNB examination in General Surgery and has completed formal laparoscopic training, including recognised basic and advanced laparoscopic courses. This academic foundation has supported a long career across both clinical and teaching roles.

After leading a surgical team and holding a faculty position for over a decade at KEM Hospital, a major tertiary care teaching institution in Mumbai, Dr. Hema held senior consultant surgical posts at leading tertiary hospitals including Apollo Hospitals, Bangalore, and Columbia Asia Hospitals, Bangalore. In these roles she managed a wide range of elective and emergency surgical cases, contributed to service development, and helped establish structured pathways for advanced laparoscopic and bariatric surgical care.

Her fellowship-level training spans bariatric surgery, colorectal surgery, breast surgery and endocrine surgery at recognised centres in India and abroad. She has also undertaken advanced training in single-incision laparoscopic surgery, metabolic surgery, and hernia repair with abdominal wall reconstruction.

Dr. Hema has a strong interest in surgical education, team-based care and continuous professional development. She has contributed to postgraduate training, mentoring and workshop participation, and to the adoption of newer minimally invasive surgical techniques. Her approach to patient care emphasises clear communication, individualised treatment planning, and choosing the safest and most appropriate surgical option for each patient.
