About Dr. Salim

Dr. Salim is a Senior Consultant Gastroenterologist and Hepatologist and one of the leading figures in his field in the Sultanate of Oman. With more than 25 years of experience, he is known particularly for advanced therapeutic endoscopy — the interventional procedures that allow complex digestive and biliary problems to be treated through an endoscope rather than by open surgery.

His interventional practice includes ERCP for bile duct and pancreatic disease, dilation of strictures, gastrointestinal stenting, and endoscopic removal of large polyps. He has particular expertise in the endoscopic management of complications following bariatric surgery, including mega-stenting for gastric leak after sleeve gastrectomy and dilation of post-sleeve gastric narrowing — demanding procedures that require both experience and specialised equipment, and which spare patients a return to the operating theatre.

Alongside this, Dr. Salim manages the full range of general gastroenterology and liver disease: peptic ulcer disease, gastritis, oesophageal and reflux disorders, biliary and pancreatic conditions, irritable bowel syndrome, colon cancer, and viral, autoimmune, alcohol-related and drug-induced liver disease. He has successfully treated a large number of complex and referred cases over the course of his career.

Dr. Salim qualified in medicine and completed gastroenterology training in Germany, and holds MRCP (UK). He has authored numerous scientific research papers in national and international journals, and is the founder of the Inflammatory Bowel Disease Club in Oman — a body established to improve care, awareness and shared learning for patients living with Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis. He consults in Arabic and English.
