Profile

About Dr. Suhaila

Dr. Suhaila is a Consultant in Obstetrics & Gynaecology, sub-specialized in Urogynaecology — the treatment of pelvic floor problems in women, including urinary incontinence, pelvic organ prolapse, and childbirth-related pelvic floor injuries. Canadian board-certified and fellowship-trained, she is among the few female pelvic medicine and reconstructive surgery specialists in Oman.

Dr. Suhaila earned her MBChB from the University of Otago, New Zealand, in 2010 and completed her internship at Sultan Qaboos University. She then trained in Canada for seven years: a full Obstetrics & Gynaecology residency at McGill University (2016–2021), certification by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (2021), and a two-year Fellowship in Female Pelvic Medicine and Reconstructive Surgery at McMaster University (2021–2023), during which she also provided consultant-level gynaecology coverage at Hamilton Health Sciences and Lincoln Memorial Hospital in Ontario under an independent Ontario license.

Returning to Oman, she rejoined Sultan Qaboos University Hospital, where she was promoted to Consultant in October 2024. There she runs weekly urogynaecology and general gynaecology clinics and operating lists, re-established the outpatient urodynamics service, contributes to hospital protocols and the daycare committee, teaches medical students and residents, and serves on the OMSB Examination Subcommittee. She also sees patients at Muscat Private Hospital. She is a leading organizer and facilitator of perineal repair training in Oman — including hands-on workshops at the RCOG Congress Muscat 2024, OMSB, and the Omani Society of Obstetrics and Gynecology — and trained in surgical repair of vaginal fistula and urinary incontinence with the International Continence Society.

Dr. Suhaila understands that pelvic floor problems — leakage, prolapse, pain after childbirth — affect a woman's confidence and quality of life far more than most people realize, and are often endured in silence. Her practice offers women a place to be heard, properly assessed, and treated with the full range of modern conservative and surgical options.
