Dr. Taha Mohsin Juma Al Lawati

Dr. Taha is a Senior Consultant in General Surgery and Surgical Oncology and Head of the Breast Unit at Muscat Private Hospital, with more than 30 years of clinical and academic experience in surgical oncology and breast surgery. His practice centers on the diagnosis of all breast pathologies and the staged treatment of breast malignancies with immediate reconstruction.

Dr. Taha earned his medical degree (MB ChB) from the University of Rome La Sapienza in Italy in 1994, graduating with distinction. He completed his general surgery training through the Oman Medical Specialty Board and holds Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons of Glasgow (FRCS), a Surgical Oncology Fellowship from the University of Lyon I in France (AFSA), and a PhD in Breast Surgical Oncology and Oncoplastic-Reconstructive Surgery from the University of Rome Tor Vergata, completed in 2015.

He built his career across Italy, France, and Oman, including specialist and senior specialist posts in surgical oncology at the Centre Hospitalier Lyon Sud in France, before returning to Oman, where he served as Senior Consultant General Surgeon and Surgical Oncologist, and Head of the Breast Unit, at the Royal Hospital from 2009 to 2024. He now leads the Breast Unit at Muscat Private Hospital.

Alongside his clinical work, Dr. Taha holds a number of leadership and academic roles: he is Executive President and Founder of the European Asiatic Society of Surgical Oncology (since 2014), a vice President Oman Medical Association, Board member of the Oman Cancer Association and the General Secretary Oman Cancer Society, Oman's representative on the board of the Gulf Federation of Cancer, and a Regional Editor of the Gulf Journal of Oncology. He has also taught medical students at Sultan Qaboos University and served as Adjunct Professor of Surgical Oncology at the University of Peloponnese.

In 2023, he was awarded the title of Chevalier (Knight) of the republic of Italy in Medicine and the Medal of the Star of Italy by the President of the Italian Republic, in recognition of his research contributions — an honor also recognized by His Majesty the Sultan of Oman.
